NEAT ID, The European treatment network of HIV, hepatitis and global emerging infectious diseases has appointed Dr Esteban Martinez, MD, as President


Dr Esteban Martinez succeeds Professor Anton Pozniak, who has been President of NEAT ID since conception in 2012.


NEAT ID is proud to announce the appointment of Dr Esteban Martinez as its new president, succeeding Professor Anton Pozniak who had led the network through a period of remarkable growth and success.


Professor Anton Pozniak’s leadership has been instrumental in expanding the scope of the network, which now supports 16 clinical and data studies, recruiting over 6,000 patients, and producing more than 50 impactful scientific publications. Under his guidance, NEAT ID has distributed over €30 million in funding to sites for research, helping to improve the lives of those affected by HIV, hepatitis, and emerging infectious diseases across Europe and beyond.


“I would like to extend my gratitude to Professor Anton Pozniak for the growth in NEAT ID and the opportunity to follow in his footsteps,” said Dr Esteban Martinez. “It is my mission to continue this path by supporting and developing clinical research on infectious diseases, spreading expertise, resources ands funds.”


Dr Esteban Martinez is an experienced leader in the field of infectious diseases, with a distinguished career in clinical research and patient care. He brings a wealth of expertise and a forward-thinking approach to his new role. As the new President of NEAT ID, Dr Esteban Martinez aims to further enhance the network’s global impact by fostering international collaborations and supporting new ideas. Dr Esteban Martinez is a Senior Consultant in Infectious Diseases at Hospital Clínic of Barcelona and Associate Professor of Medicine at University of Barcelona. Dr Esteban Martinez was the President of the European AIDS Clinical Society from 2022-2024.


“Dr Esteban Martinez is a talented researcher, he is innovative, a thoughtful experienced clinician and has excellent leadership skills,” said Professor Anton Pozniak. “I am so pleased he has taken on the role as the new President of NEAT ID.
